Michelle’s Story

“I wouldn’t have been able to approach this situation alone and was on the verge of leaving my job, the support I received have really helped me to happier at work.”

“I returned from maternity leave last year to find that I had a new Line manager. The manager does not approve of working mothers and constantly talks about how much she dislikes children. I found these comments inappropriate and raised the matter with her. As a result, she started bullying me, giving me difficult shifts and adding to my duties. My son has several health conditions including severe allergies that mean I have to take him to hospital on a fairly regular basis. The manager complained about me taking her son to Great Ormond Street Hospital for treatment, and refused my leave, I didn’t feel this was right so I asked my therapist if I could be referred to an Employment Support Advisor, I was contacted by a retention specialist.

My advisor helped me draft an email to my manager about the negative remarks and unfair treatment.

My senior manager is happy with my work and is supportive, because of my email we discussed flexible working and I have been able to change shifts and work with a different line manager

I wouldn’t have been able to approach this situation alone and was on the verge of leaving my job, the support I received have really helped me to happier at work.”
